In 2005, I saw my first home digesters in use. This digester belongs to Guy Roberts (see "people" section) who is a scientist and inventor that builds farm scale digesters for 100-1000 head of cattle. This one is just a small home digester that he feeds his food scraps and dog poo into.
From right to left - a vertical pipe to add biodegradable material (food scraps, etc.), - a long horizontal pipe where the methane is produced. In the middle of the horizontal pipe is a small bump and a metal pipe that comes out out of it, this is where the methane is collected and burned.
